Dances, Parades and Demonstrations in Bolivia (ii)

This clip shows similarities between dances, parades and demonstrations in Bolivia.

The film clips are my own; I am extremely grateful to Meg Jamieson for editing them together.

For me, the key issues to focus on with this clip are: the corporate groupings that organise all three practices; the importance of an aesthetics of forward movement in unity and the discipline involved in keeping those aesthetics working. I am currently working on a paper that explores these issues more closely, and suggests the idea of visual and physical citations between the three, which are a kind of intertextuality. I’m trying to see what cultural and political work this kind of intertextuality can do, with a special focus on protest demonstrations.
